Many credit the first recorded use of an artificial fly to the Roman Claudius Aelianus near the end of the 2nd century. So what better place to come to enjoy fishing break than Matfen Hall on the edge of the old Roman empire and the heart of Hadrian’s wall Country.
The beautiful countryside of Northumberland provides numerous opportunities for excellent fly fishing for all levels of ability and experience.
Matfen Hall has joined forces with Bob Smith, who is a passionate fly fisherman who has fished the regions rivers and still waters for many years.
Bob is a member of the prestigious Hardy and Greys Game Fishing Academy of Instructors so is well qualified to coach all ages and abilities, (from complete beginners to anglers who wish to improve their technique or catch returns). He is also co author of North East Still Water Trout Fishing, so Bob has a detailed knowledge of the regions premier still waters and how to fish them.
Bob founded, and is now Hon. President of the Hirst Park Trout Ticklers, which is a trout fishing club where youngsters and their parents are encouraged to fish together. This means he has tremendous experience of coaching youngsters, getting them to enjoy the countryside and the challenge of fishing.
Local knowledge and good relationships with landowners and fisheries mean Bob is ideally positioned to arrange the perfect day for you.
Bob has a number of private river beats on the River Coquet, River Till and the River Whiteadder in addition to some excellent and well managed small and large still waters in his portfolio - all within easy traveling distance.
The break will include overnight accommodation, breakfast, packed lunch, half day fishing with Bob plus all permits required
Rates from £129 per person
